Turkey is one of the most important sources of tailored menswear in the world. Boutiques from Moscow to Almaty, from Belgrade to Lagos, fill their rails with suits cut and finished in Istanbul. The reasons are simple: European-style patterns, good fabrics, short lead times and prices that leave a healthy margin for the retailer.
But buying wholesale suits from Turkey for the first time can feel confusing. Districts, size runs, "lots", minimum orders, cargo companies, customs — every supplier explains it a little differently. This guide walks through the whole process the way we explain it to new buyers in our showroom in Laleli, so you can plan your first order with confidence.
Why buy suits from Turkey?
Turkish suit makers sit in a sweet spot between European design and competitive production costs. A few advantages matter most for a boutique:
- European fit. Most Istanbul brands cut on Italian-style patterns: slim through the waist, a clean shoulder and a shorter, modern jacket length. Your customers get a look they recognise from European labels.
- Speed. Collections change several times a year and new models arrive every few weeks. You can restock bestsellers quickly instead of waiting months for a factory slot abroad.
- Fabric choice. From 100% wool to stretch blends, plain cloths, stripes, checks and textured "design" fabrics, the variety at one address is large.
- Logistics. Istanbul is a few hours by air from most of Europe, the CIS, the Middle East and North Africa, and cargo routes to these markets are well established.
Understanding Istanbul's wholesale districts
Most wholesale clothing in Istanbul is sold from a handful of districts. Laleli, in the historic Fatih district, is the best known among international buyers. Its streets are lined with showrooms that sell only to trade customers, many of them with staff who speak Russian, English and Arabic. Merter and Güngören are home to many production workshops and larger wholesalers, and some brands have showrooms in both areas.
For suits specifically, Laleli is convenient because you can compare many brands within walking distance in a single day. Our own showroom is on Mesihpaşa Street in Laleli — you can see the address and opening details in the showroom section of our homepage.
One honest note: in any wholesale district you will meet both brands that design and produce their own collections and trading companies that resell other labels. Both can be good partners, but you should know which one you are dealing with. We cover the questions to ask further below.
How wholesale suit orders work: size runs and series
The single most important concept for a first-time buyer is the size run (also called a series or "seri" in Turkish). Wholesale suits are rarely sold as single pieces. Instead, each model and colour is sold as a set that covers a range of sizes.
A typical run for a slim-fit suit in Laleli covers European sizes 48 to 58, one piece per size:
| Size run | Sizes included | Pieces |
|---|---|---|
| Standard run | 48, 50, 52, 54, 56, 58 | 6 |
| Extended run | 46, 48, 50, 52, 54, 56, 58 | 7 |
Some models are also offered with size 46 for markets where customers are smaller on average. At Zolozzo our standard slim-fit models are produced in sizes 48–58, and selected models also come in 46. If you are unsure how these European sizes match your customers, our suit size chart guide explains chest and waist measurements, the "drop" system and conversions to US/UK sizes.
The size run has a practical advantage for you as a retailer: you receive a balanced spread of sizes for every colour, so you can serve most customers without having to forecast size by size.
Minimum order quantity (MOQ)
Minimum order quantities vary by supplier and by type of order:
- Stock collections: the minimum is usually one size run per model and colour. You can mix many different models in one order, which lets a small boutique start with a wide selection.
- Private label / custom production: if you want your own label sewn in, or a fabric and pattern made only for you, minimums are much higher — often a hundred pieces or more per style.
Always confirm the minimum per model, per colour and per order before you plan your budget. At Zolozzo we sell wholesale only, from our stock collections; send us a message on WhatsApp and we will share the current model list and conditions.
Choosing the right models for your shop
A good first order balances safe sellers with a few statement pieces. In most markets a starting assortment looks something like this:
- Two-piece slim-fit suits in core colours — navy, charcoal, black and mid-grey. These are your volume sellers for business and everyday wear.
- Three-piece suits with a matching waistcoat, which sell especially well for weddings, engagements and holiday seasons.
- Double-breasted suits for the fashion-forward customer. A six-button, two-to-close model in a stripe or a deep colour adds visual interest to the rail.
- Blazers sold as jackets only, in textured or checked fabrics, which let customers combine with trousers they already own and raise your average basket.
We go deeper into which cuts sell in which situations in our article on best-selling suit styles for boutiques. You can also browse our current models with filters for two-piece, three-piece, double-breasted and blazer in the collection.
Quality checks before you order
Photographs only tell part of the story. Whether you visit in person or order remotely, check these points:
- Fabric composition and weight. Ask for the exact content (for example 100% wool, or a wool-polyester blend with elastane) and whether the fabric is suitable for your climate and season.
- Construction. Look at the shoulder line, how the lapel rolls, whether the stitching along the lapel edge is even, and how the lining is finished inside.
- Fit consistency. Compare the same size across two different models from the same brand. A reliable maker cuts consistently.
- Trims. Buttons, labels, hangers and garment bags all shape how the suit feels to your customer when it leaves your shop.
- Details that sell. Pick stitching on the lapels, patch or "pouch" pockets, a lapel pin, a matching pocket square — small details help a suit stand out on a crowded rail.
If you cannot travel, ask for detailed close-up photos or a short video of the actual garment, not just catalogue images.
Samples, photos and video calls
Many buyers now place their first orders without visiting Istanbul. A good wholesale partner should be able to:
- send close-up photos of fabric, stitching and labels on request,
- show garments on a live video call from the showroom,
- confirm current stock, colours and sizes before you pay,
- send a sample piece when it makes sense for a larger first order.
Our team answers on WhatsApp and Telegram in Turkish, English and Russian, and we can show you the garments on a video call before you order. You can find every channel in the contact section.
Payment and pricing
Wholesale prices in Istanbul are usually quoted per piece, in US dollars, euros or Turkish lira, and paid before the goods are shipped. Common methods are bank transfer and, for buyers who visit, payment at the showroom. Before paying, make sure you have in writing:
- the model names or codes, colours and number of runs,
- the unit price and the total, including any packaging costs,
- what the price includes — for example hangers, garment bags or pocket squares,
- the expected shipping date.
Prices change with fabric costs and exchange rates, so treat any price list as valid for a limited time and confirm it when you order.
Shipping and customs
Once your order is packed, it can travel in several ways:
- Cargo companies specialised in your market collect from Laleli and handle the route to your country. Many offer door-to-door service, including customs clearance, for a price per kilogram.
- Air freight is fastest and suits smaller, urgent orders.
- Road freight is economical for larger volumes to Europe, the Balkans and the CIS.
Customs rules, duties and required documents depend on your country and change over time, so always confirm them with your cargo company or customs broker before shipping. Ask your supplier for a proper invoice and a packing list with model names, quantities and fabric composition — your broker will need them.
Questions to ask every supplier
Before you commit, put these questions to any wholesaler — including us:
- Do you design and produce your own collection, or do you resell other brands?
- What is the minimum per model, per colour and per order?
- Which sizes does each model come in, and is the fit consistent across models?
- What is the exact fabric composition?
- How often do you release new models, and can I reorder bestsellers?
- How do you pack suits for shipping, and which cargo companies do your clients use?
- Can you show me the actual garments on video before I pay?
Clear, fast answers to these questions are one of the best signs of a reliable partner.
